dsocial

When using social networking software/services, users create the content and it is hosted by the service. In most cases, this tight integration between the service hosting the data and the service regulating access to the data works well for the user since it frees the user from considering how they'll store/maintain the data and what to do if the data store becomes inaccessible. This setup also means that the user's content becomes hostage to the service. If the organization providing the service decides a user has acted against its rules or simply no longer wants to provide service to the user, the user's content suddenly vanishes and is no longer accessible to the user. We've seen this with people spending countless hours uploading their content to a social networking service only to have that service decide to terminate their account. If the data was stored external to the service, then the user could be free to use another service (or start their own) and still access all the data they painstakingly created. The purpose of the dsocial project is to come up with a framework that allows content to be created by users, stored and made accessible through APIs such that they can be used by other services. Those other services can then cache the data for efficiency purposes, but can always go back and access the data store so long as authorized by the user. There are certain types of data and APIs that are common to all social networking sites. Data formats and APIs must be developed to support at minimum the following types of data: Authentication and Authorization mechanisms Use of multiple data storage options (standard filesystem, Amazon's S3, Rackspace's Mosso, etc.) User Description/Promotion page Contact/Address Book Calendaring/Event information Blogging/Publishing/RSS Photo Albums Messaging Templating of user-generated content Additional types of data and APIs Music/Jukebox support (much later) Video support (much later)

floodzilla

What is Floodzilla?Floodzilla is the Web based real time flood and natural disasters alert system which is basically targeted to inform people immediately about a flood and natural disasters threat via web. This project has been specially design to display various flood situations around a selected geographical area and areas that have been threatened will be pin pointed by a ?Place Marker? and an ?Info Window?. The roll of the Flood and natural disasters alert system has a wide range of activities such as giving information about the flood areas immediately, uploading videos and images that are related to particular flooding area, managing Volunteers and Subscribers information, modifying the related data which are added by volunteers, sending flood alert (SMS) to all the subscribers...etc. In order to achieve our goal we will basically focus on Floodzilla basically targeted to inform people immediately about a flood threat or natural disaster via web. Floodzilla act as a dashboard that displays various flood or natural situations around a selected geographical area. Areas that have been threatened will be pin pointed by a ?Place Marker? and an ?Info Window?. A ?place marker? is a graphical icon that stands on a particular location on the map. An ?Info window? is a component which displays small description about a ?Place marker? and it can carry small textual data. Volunteers can upload photos and videos about a particular flooding and natural disasters area. For the sake of convenience and correctness, that information will be moderated before publishing on the site. Moderation can be done via the site administrator. Interested users can register to receive flood and natural disasters alerts via Floodzilla. In this case, people who live near water resources are highly targeted. All subscribers will be alerted by a SMS.

namedquerysets

NamedQuerySets are the foundation for quickly defining, building, and publishing the contents of a Django QuerySet. You start with a plain QuerySet, give it a name, and define some public filters. After some basic templating, you've got a newegg-style content browser. The filter state is a small string, so that after drilling down in the content browser, the same filter can be bookmarked, turned into an RSS feed, a website widget, or email alerts (like Google Alert) without much extra effort. NamedQuerySets also support browsing/filtering of multiple querysets on the same page, automatically maintaining each NQS's filter state independently within the URL querystring. The code works, but the API isn't finalized yet. A handful or two of issues are under active development, before we declare 1.0. For a demo of NamedQuerySets in action, visit http://www.chinabizevents.com/

impala-extensions

This project contains extensions to Impala, a dynamic modular application development framework based on Spring. The idea for this project is to host web framework integrations and other extensions to Impala which are generic enough to be useful across multiple projects, but are not sufficiently "core" to be included in the main Impala code base. Extension ModulesSpring MVC ExtensionsExtensions to Spring MVC's annotation based controller framework. Includes various CustomArgumentResolver implementations, as well an annotation HandlerAdapter implementation with support for flash scope as well as other minor enhancements. Source Snapshot build Event FrameworkA framework for publishing and consuming general purpose application events for use within Spring-based applications. Using the event framework allows for greater decoupling of business processes, in a way which is quite similar to JMS. However, as no extra infrastructure is required, it is much more lightweight and simpler to set up than a JMS-based solution. Supports a variety of event types and use cases, from transient and synchronous events through to persistent and asynchronous events, making it suitable for transactional, enterprise applications.
